Lewis nets seven to conquer Spartans
Lewis’ goals were padded by a double from Maurice Billy and one from Cordel Bailey as Spartan remained winless and rooted to the base of the 12-team table with just one point to show for their season so far. G Madrid had previously edged last year’s losing finalist 3-2 in a repeat of last year’s title match.
On Thursday, Boys Town maintained their slim chances of qualifying for the ‘Big 8’ with an 8-2 battering of Spartan for just their second win of the 2016 campaign. The victory leaves Boys Town with six points from eight matches with three games remaining. Gremio, who occupy the eighth and final spot in the race for the ‘Big 8’, defeated old School 8-1 to push their tally to 12 points from 10 matches with one game in hand.
Meanwhile last Saturday, the much improved North Oropouche took a point from 2013 champions Dream Team who were lucky to secure the draw.
After a goalless first half, North Oropouche, who look like title challengers this year, went ahead through Leon Timothy but Dream Team levelled the scores courtesy an own goal to ensure a share of the points.
In other results, Coca All-Stars edged Manzanilla United 1-0 to secure their qualification to the ‘Big 8’.
Action resumes today with Boys Town needing a positive result against G Madrid in an intriguing contest set for 3.45pm at the North Oropouche Recreation Ground. Tomorrow at 1.45pm, it’s Old School vs Eclipse while Spartan battle Dragon at 3.45pm at the same ground.
