Bassarath defends his record at TTCB helm

Bassarath told attendees of the second biennial awards function of the TT Umpires and Scorers’ Council on Saturday that the game has been wel-served under his administration.

The former umpire commented on the achievements locally, regionally and internationally by Trinidad and Tobago cricketers which he said stand as testimony to the successful policies and plans of the TT CB.

He said that the TT CB has an expansionary concept of cricket development which envisions a greater role for its stakeholders which will soon embrace all coaches, cricket analysts and other professional who bring their expertise and knowledge to the game.

“This refreshing approach breaks the mould of the restrictive structure of the past, and which has overseen the phenomenal growth and success of women’s cricket, and the importance of schools (primary and secondary) who comprise the largest group of participants nationally which carry the torch of our highly regarded development programmes,” said Bassarath.

Bassarath pointed to the dominance of the national Red Force team in the shorter formats of the game (T20 and 50-Overs), and the string of successes enjoyed by the national age group teams in regional competition.

“Additionally, two of our young stars, Kirstan Kallicharan and Jyd Goolie were members of the West Indies team which won, for the first time, the ICC Under-19 World Championship in Bangladesh at the beginning of the year,” said Bassarath.

He also noted that women’s cricketers Merissa Aguilleria, Anisa Mohammed, Stacy- Ann King, and Britney Cooper were key members of the West Indies women’s squad which were triumphant for the first time in the ICC Women’s T20 Championship staged in India.
