The tandem compiled a total of 43 stableford points, the same as the Ronsafe Limited duo of Ernest De Gannes and Isha Lalbirsingh.
However the combination of Matabadal and Richards jr were awarded the title based on a count-back, and walked away with crystal trophies and $5,000 worth of units from the Unit Trust Corporation.
Adam Montano and Wayne Baptiste, representing Caribel, finished in third position with 42 points, followed by Vijai Ragoonanan and Farook Hosein of Republic Bank (also with 42 points) and Richard Lara and Randy Dhalloo of KFC (41 points).
However, no golfer was able to claim the hole in one prize, on the 11th hole, of a BMW 1 Series sponsored by 21st Century Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers Limited, or the US$250,000 prize for a hole in one from 180 yards on the ninth hole for those who were closest to the pin on the par 3’s.
The tournament was held to raise funds for the group Heartbeat International of Trinidad and Tobago in their efforts to supply pacemakers and defibrillators to needy patients throughout the twin-island republic, in addition to other noteworthy charitable causes.
During the prize-giving ceremony, chairman of the Organising Committee Krishna Boodhai, thanked the Committee for ensuring that the event was a success. He also indicated that as in previous years, some of the proceeds of the event would go toward developing the game of golf in the country through the continued sponsorship of young promising golfer, Sarah Ramphal with the addition of the winners of the event who would also receive professional training for one year.
Also extended his gratitude towards the sponsors, participants and volunteers was Gary Williams, president of the Rotary Club of St Augustine.
