‘Friends carry you, but won’t bring you back’
Speaking to relatives awaiting the results of an autopsy done at the Forensic Science Centre in St James yesterday, Newsday was told that the father of one, who made a living as a painter, died because friends who have been influencing him negatively for years, literally took him and did not bring him back.
“My son was a good boy, it was just the company he kept,” said Dylan’s mother Allison. “You know the saying, ‘friends would take you won’t bring you back’? Well that is what happened.” Springer was at his home in Longdenville, when he got a call from one of his friends, to go out with them. Despite being reluctant, he still went with the friend, to Coconut Drive, St Joseph.
Police reports are that at about 11 pm on Wednesday, gunshots were heard and when residents checked, they discovered Springer in a drain on the roadway on Coconut Drive. He was dead at the scene.
Newsday was told that this was not the first time that Springer had been shot. Around Divali last year, Springer was attacked by an unknown gunman and shot. He survived that incident.
Relatives also said yesterday that the friend who led Springer to his death is now in police custody, assisting with investigations.
It is understood that he and the man knew each other for years and lived in the same area, but last year, they had a falling out.
It was not specified whether or not the falling out had taken place around the same time he was shot, but when their friendship resumed, relatives warned Springer about keeping association with the man.
An autopsy performed at Forensics yesterday confirmed that Springer died from multiple gunshot wounds. Springer’s body was among three bodies discovered within a matter of hours, between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Another body was found in the Las Cuevas area at about 6am on Thursday and at about 9 am a third was discovered. Up to press time, the two bodies remained unidentified, but autopsies were performed. In the case of the man who was found dead in Las Cuevas, pathologists told Newsday they observed 12 stab wounds to the right side of the neck. Pathologists have determined that the killer may have been a left-handed person.
The body which was found in Morne Diablo, has left pathologists perplexed. Newsday was told that when the autopsy was performed on the skeletal remains, pathologists could find no injuries to the body. Police are still seeking the public’s help in identifying these two bodies, and have advised that any persons who believe they may have any information that may assist, can call their nearest police station.
