The lead sponsor of this year’s festival is the German Embassy and the launch was held at the official residence of the Ambassador Lutz G?rgens last week.

Sustain T&T is dedicated to highlighting issues of environmental conservation, alternative energy, climate change and sustainable development. Green Screen is an annual festival of top local, regional and international narrative, documentary, experimental, animated and short films, which highlight crucial environmental issues and get people talking.

Speaking at the launch, G?rgens stressed the importance of Green Screen’s work to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Sagicor general manager Lisa Mahabir said the company was pleased to sponsor the films for a Better Place Jury Award, helping to encourage the development of the local film sector and raise awareness of environmental issues, a media release stated.

Festival director Carver Bacchus gave guests an overview of the films and events in store for the 2016 festival, including The Pearl Button which will be featured at the opening Benefit Launch at Imax on November 1; the Films for a Better Place programme, which has facilitated the creation of five new short films; festival visitors including film-makers and the co-founder of Greenpeace; and, The Big Picture, a panel discussion aimed at pushing forward the Beverage Container Bill, on November 8 at Nalis, Portof- Spain.

The event was attended by Deputy Mayor of Port-of-Spain Asha Permanand, representatives from the creative and corporate sectors, environmental organisations, film-makers and festival partners.
