D/Force midfielder’s career halted by car crash

The 31-year-old Lance Corporal Narcis underwent emergency surgery to his left eye at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope following the accident which occurred on the Uriah Butler Highway in the vicinity of the Divali Nagar site.

There were no injuries to his (Narcis) body such as broken bones, “only head trauma”, said Lieutenant Basil Thompson, the Defence Force FC team manager.

Thompson, who is at the hospital to liaise with doctors on the next step in the care of Narcis, confirmed that player underwent surgery to his eye. If Narcis does become visually impaired, it would mean an end to his playing career, while his responsibilities with the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment will be limited to less risky duties.

Images have appeared on social media of a badly damaged Kia SUV, thought to be owned by the footballer.

The vehicle appears to have collided with another vehicle.

However, details surrounding the incident, which occurred at about 3am are still unknown to officials of the Defence Force football club. Narcis, a two-time (2010/11 & 2012/13) Pro League medal winner with Defence Force, scored his team’s second goal in a 3-2 defeat against Club Sando on Friday night at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.
