Police, Sando register 3-1 wins

At the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Police got the better of the struggling Morvant Caledonia United while Club Sando prevailed over St Ann’s Rangers at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

In front of a sprinkling of supporters, Police and Caledonia struggled to make any impact until the 33rd minute.

Out of the blue, a penalty was awarded by referee Nikoli Nyron after Elijah Belgrave’s goal-bound shot struck the arm of defender Seon Thomas.

And the rugged Police captain Todd Ryan blasted the penalty to the top right corner, beyond the reach of goalkeeper Marvin Phillip.

In a rare Caledonia attack, right-back Ordell Flemming was given acres of space and unleashed a longrange drive, which narrowly missed the target. But, on the stroke of half-time, Nyron awarded a debatable freekick after Belgrave appeared to win the ball from Caledonia’s attacker Lester Joseph.

And former national captain Densill Theobald, from 20 metres out, placed his freekick to the bottom left-hand corner, with goalie Adrian Foncette frozen to the spot.

Caledonia had a perfect opportunity to go ahead in the 47th minute, after a penalty was given when captain Akim Amstrong was bundled over by defender Ryan O’Neil.

However, striker Sheldon Holder slipped after his right-footed shot went sky-high.

And Police made Caledonia pay for that error with a pair of goals, in the space of four minutes.

In the 62nd, rightback Jibri McDavid played a magnificent diagonal ball to Belgrave, in the penalty box, and the utility player chested the ball and drilled a low angled left-footer to the left of Phillip.

And, in the 66th, substitute Kaaron Foster played a through ball to striker Keion Wilson who got around the advancing Phillip and slotted his right-footer into the open net.

Club Sando moved up to fifth on the standings after earning their fourth win of the League season.

Jomoul Francois broke the deadlock with an eighth minute strike for Rangers, but Club Sando responded with a double from Akeem Roach (26th and 69th) and one from Keron Cornwall (47th).
