Carter breaks another national record

The 20-year-old clocked a time of 22.85 seconds in the preliminary round of the men’s 50-metre butterfly, lowering the previous Trinidad and Tobago standard of 23.08 seconds which was set by Joshua McLeod in 2014.

Carter’s time of 22.85 was the ninth-fastest among the qualifiers.

He finished fourth in heat two, with Nicholas Santos of Brazil (the 2012 gold medallist and 2014 runner- up) winning in 22.53 - the fastest overall time in the heats. Carter has been drawn in lane two in the second semi-final heat, which was due to take place at 8.02 pm (TT time) last night. The final is carded for today at 8.10 pm. Earlier this week, Carter broke the national 200m freestyle record twice, en route to a fourth-place finish.
