TTKF names Sensei Smith as 2016 Individual of the Year

The TTKF said Smith did a lot of work in advancing the local karate organisation not only in TT, but the wider Caribbean region.

Smith conducted numerous workshops and was a major contributor in hosting the Fourth Caribbean Cup Karate Championships in November.

Smith’s commitment to the TTKF will continue in 2017 as he is part of the planning committee for the World United Karate Organisation’s first Pan American Open Championships in June, which will be held at the Jean Pierre Complex in Mucurapo. The TTKF wish Sensei Smith all success for 2017.

In other local karate news, the TTKF welcomed Sensei John Torres as part of the federation.

Torres is the chief instructor for Torres Karate Academy located at Guaico Secondary School.

Torres has been involved in karate for over 30 years and teaches shotokan karate. His Second Dan is registered in the Black Belt registrar of the World United Karate Organisation.

Torres will be pursuing his coaching and referee training with the TTKF and he can be contacted at 499-3479. Persons interested in joining the TTKF can email Keith Taylor at trinbagokarate001@ gmail.com
