Family celebrates killer’s life

“Let’s focus on celebrating the life of a great man,” said granddaughter Alicia Vasquez, as she said the eulogy at his funeral.

Hundreds of family and friends of the former Scout master gathered outside his Piparo home to do just that.

Alicia remembered her “Papa’s” life as a humble one, focused on building strong bonds within his family of six children and seven grandchildren alongside his wife of 51 years, Habiban Vasquez.

“Papa’s prayer and hope is that our family bond may never be broken.” She asked that God bind them together to continue fulfilling Vasquez’s prayer. As to the circumstances surrounding his death, however, Alicia said nothing except, “the many questions we may have been asking we will never find the answer.” Vasquez was buried in the Piparo cemetery.

Police investigations revealed Ramdeen had ended her relationship with Vasquez one month ago.

Vasquez’s failed attempts at reconciliation ended on Wednesday when the two got into an argument.

It is believed that Vasquez slit Ramdeen’s throat before speeding off in his car which collided head on with a Junior Sammy truck along the Naparima/Mayaro Road. Vasquez died on the spot.

Ramdeen’s body was discovered by family members who grew suspicious after she did not answer her phone when they called to inform her of Vasquez’s death. Ramdeen will be laid to rest tomorrow
