Central clinch Shell InterZone U-13 trophy
Ramnath won the toss and asked his northern counterpart Kyle Ramdeo for his team to bat first in sunny conditions.
The move paid dividends as Ramnath, bowling off-spin, was virtually unplayable and finished with impressive figures of two wickets for five runs from seven overs. He was well supported by Nick Ramlal (2/7), Luke Ali (2/14), Ronnilister Perreira (2/18) and Nirvan Narinesingh (1/20), as they bowled out North for a paltry 80 in 33 overs.
Ramdeo topscored for his team with 23, that included two fours off 48 deliveries, and shared a 24-run second-wicket stand with Rahul Soodeen (seven off 21 balls) and a 16-run ninth wicket partnership with Akeel Richards (13 off 43 balls). There were 19 extras. In reply, Ramnath and Zachary Dookree rallied the Central team to an emphatic victory after prolific opener Justin Jaggessar (2) played too early and lost his off-stump to medium pacer Zachary Siewah (1/22).
The score was 18 for one after 4.3 overs. But Ramnath changed the game with his aggressive batting tactics which also spurred the defensive Dookree to be more adventurous.
Right-handed Ramnath impressed with his confident strokes and blasted three fours for a topscore of 26 off 24 balls. He and Dookree toyed with the Northern bowlers and raced to victory with an undefeated 66-run second wicket partnership.
Central’s players and their supporters celebrated when Ramnath stroked the winning boundary through the mid-off area to take the score to 84 for one after 16.2 overs.
Left-handed Dookree also hit three fours and was unbeaten on 20 off 51 balls. There were 36 extras including 33 wides. In the end, the one-sided victory was achieved with 23.4 overs remaining and Central Zone maintained their unbeaten record for the season.
