Lara, Bravos in Powerade Central T20

Home team Charlieville Same Side will take on El Socorro Youth Movement (EYM) in the opening match. The tournament runs until July 22 and will feature 10 teams in round robin competition with the top four qualifying for a knockout phase.

The inaugural tournament, which is organised by members of the Alescon Comets Sports Club, has attracted top names such as: Brian Lara, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne and Darren Bravo, Kevon Cooper, Rayad Emrit, Denesh Ramdin, Evin Lewis, Nicholas Pooran and Jason Mohammed.

The competition is geared towards bringing back supporters to the game of crick- et in the community of Charlieville. Each participating team is allowed to play three national players or premier league players per match. The 16th over is a bonus over with every boundary counting as five runs and those over the ropes earning seven runs. There will be one match every day between Monday to Friday and doubleheaders on the weekend starting 4.30pm and 8pm.

The participating teams are: Charlieville Same Side, El Socorro Youth Movement (EYM), Mystery XL, Bamboo All Stars, Youngstaz, WPI Royal Challengers, Combine All Stars 1, Combine All Stars 2, Underground Warriors and Central Empire.

The champion will be awarded $30,000, the second-placed team $15,000, third gets $7,500 and fourth place $5,000.

Tomorrow’s fixtures sees Bamboo All Stars come up against Underground Warriors.
