Larceny case against cops dismissed
PCs Raeese Baksh and Mario Richards reappeared before Magistrate Natalie Diop in the Second Court, but prosecutor Sgt Chanardath Jhilmit told the magistrate he had no file on the matter, so the prosecution could not proceed. The charge against the policemen was that on June 17, 2014, at Carib Street in San Fernando, they stole a wallet valued $10, an FCB card valued $35, a driver’s permit valued $500, an ID card valued $10 and 700 in cash.
It is alleged the policeman found a woman’s wallet containing $700 and kept it. Cpl Morales laid the charge. Baksh and Richards of Barrackpore and Borde Narve respectively, have a combined service of seven years. On their initial court appearances, Baksh and Richards of the Gasparillo and Marabella Police Stations respectively, pleaded not guilty.
They were each granted $40,000 bail at the San Fernando Police Station. Yesterday neither the complainant who is on injury leave, nor the alleged victim were present. Attorney Chantal Paul represented the policemen.
