Man murdered on mom’s birthday

Everton Moses, 35, also known as “Brothers” was shot dead after playing a game of poker with friends at Sea View Drive, Marabella.

The incident occurred near his home at Riverside Road.

Moses, a labourer, spent the day with his mother Anjela Moses at home, but left at about 5 pm.

At about 8 pm, police responded to reports of gunshots at Sea View Drive, and found Moses’ body on the road. He was shot to the head and abdomen. Thirty spent shells were recovered on the scene. Investigators believe there may have been more than one shooter. A district medical officer ordered the body’s removal to the Forensic Science Centre, St James.

“They killed my boy like an animal and on my birthday,” Anjela lamented yesterday. “It hurts so much to know that every birthday I celebrate in the near future, these horrible memories would return knowing that he would not be there to tell me happy birthday.

I don’t think I even celebrate another birthday.” Moses was the second eldest of 15 children.

Anjela recalled the final moments with her son.

“He did not work on Tuesday and he was with me for the day.

We had breakfast and lunch together.

He give me a kiss and told me happy birthday. I was just enjoying him being with me. Now he is dead and I feel like this is a bad dream. No mother should ever go through this.” Anjela said Moses told her he was going to visit friends when he left home. Later that night, she received a call from a resident informing her that her son was shot dead. “I still can’t come to terms that he is dead and gone. My son was loved by all. He did not deserve this.” Moses was the father of a 13-year-old girl. Anjela said while she hopes justice is served, she is leaving everything in God’s hands.

“You see and read about murders taking place all over the country and you feel so sorry for the mothers who have to bury their sons who were murdered. I would have never thought crime would have reached on my doorsteps.

It hurt really bad.” Investigators believe Moses may have been robbed of cash he won while playing poker at Sea View Drive. Homicide Region Three officers are investigating
