Few hundred refugees, yes — not thousands
Well the UN, founded on lofty ideals and grandiose objectives, has long collapsed. It has become a club for employment in far-away capitals where it inflicts mainly confusion and chaos. It’s a grand talk shop.
This is not politically correct language, but it seems no one has the guts to bell the cat. First the 57 Organization of Islamic Countries together with their Third World allies, which they have bought, set the agenda. The cannot be outvoted easily.
If we seem to be creating a welcome to refugees with no conditions and tough advance screening, the UN will not merely ask us to accommodate a few. It will channel them here in vast numbers which we do not have the ability to accommodate financially or culturally.
Please pay attention to the fact that the movers and shakers in the Arab world do not take in refugees and they are from their own neighbourhood.
Where has the UN been successful in channelling refugees? To Europe? The UK? Canada? Total chaos.
We in TT have a working and much admired ability to get along very happily among our diverse racial mix. This did not happen just so. It developed naturally over almost two centuries. We need to be careful and not let foreign cooks stir the pot. The result would be inedible.
Yes, we can take in a few hundred people in real need, but not what Barbado and his cohorts have in mind — not many thousands. Let’s focus on Venezuela, Cuba and the near beyond.
Barbado would help us sow the wind, then he would go home to wherever that is, and it is we to reap the whirlwind.
