Tyro 40-and-Over Football League kicks off Sunday

All matches will be played using hockey- sized goal posts.

The event will be sponsored by Saint Rose Funeral Services, and teams will be vying for a jackpot of $3,000 and a trophy.

The runners-up will be guaranteed $1,000 and a trophy, the thirdplaced team will get $500 and a trophy while the fourth-placed team will only receive a trophy. The winners of the first round will take home $500 and a trophy, while there will also be trophies on offer for the most disciplined team, most valuable player, leading goalscorer and best goalkeeper.

The registration fee is $200 per team plus an additional $30 for each game played.

In addition, there will be two one-day events coming up, sponsored by OP Allen Funeral Directors. The basketball shootout will be staged on Saturday while the football small goal shootout will be contested on Monday.

Both events start at 5 pm at the Gabba Ground, adjacent to the Bourg Mulatresse Primary School.

Each person willing to compete in each event will have to pay $20, with the respective winners entitled to $700 and a trophy, while the runners-up will get $300 apiece.
