2 Fr Harvey accused get bail

Co-accused Dion Guillard, 31, and a 17 year-old, were not as lucky as each have pending charges and prior convictions.

They were both remanded into custody with the teen ordered sent to the Youth Training Centre (YTC) in Arouca.

All four are to return to court on July 20.

Huggins and Collins are to also receive approval of the Clerk of the Peace III for their bail and were ordered to report to the Besson Street Police Station every Monday and Friday between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm. Guillard and the teenager were advised of their right to apply for bail before a judge in chambers.

In objecting to bail, prosecutor Sgt Azard Ali submitted that the four should be kept in custody as it appears, “The public is not safe anywhere anymore, even in church.” In submissions, each accused man complained through their lawyers that they were not taken for medical treatment although this was ordered by the magistrate before whom they first appeared on Tuesday.

Sgt Ali acknowledged that it was the order of the court that they receive medical treatment and he would have to make enquiries but added that the four could be treated at the prisons’ infirmary. Sgt Ali said it was his instruction from the officer who charged the four, that contrary to their assertions, they did not receive a ‘thorough beating’ by police upon arrest.

“Perhaps they were mistaken and were touched by the hands of God,” Sgt Ali said.

Another complaint by the men was that they were forced to sign a document which they were unable to read.
