Mother to stand trail for killing of baby son

Forde-John ruled that the prosecution had made out a prima facie case against Ramrattan in the death of her baby Roshan. She was charged in October 2012.

Roshan was allegedly beaten to death at School Road, Bonne Aventure, Gasparillo on September 29, 2012. An autopsy revealed he had blunt craniocerebral trauma as a result of multiple blunt traumatic injuries. On her first appearance, Ramrattan of Claxton Bay was placed on $200,000 bail. The amount was reduced to $20,000.

She was represented by attorney Marissa Bobb while the State was represented by attorney Ambay Ramkhelewan. The preliminary inquiry was conducted via paper committal. The statements of 14 witnesses were sworn and filed for the defence. The State called one witness to give direct evidence. He was identified as Roshan’s father Kendall Francois.
