Police probe suspected extortion after ‘kidnapping’
The message was accompanied by a photo of the daughter with a gun to her head and a number to call the kidnappers.
Cunupia police contacted their colleagues at the Anti- Kidnapping Unit and following enquiries, the grandson was found unharmed at a house in Cunupia. The occupants of the house said they were asked to keep the child for the woman while she was in Venezuela.
Investigations revealed the businessman’s daughter left for Venezuela five weeks ago in the company of someone from the Enterprise area.
Police believe she may be linked to the robbery of her father at his Welcome Road, Cunupia home and may be also involved in attempting to extort money from him.
Yesterday, the businessman told Newsday that after the April 1 robbery, his daughter who worked at the family’s business place, went missing and he was told by people that she was seen purchasing expensive items. The businessman said he now has reason to believe his daughter is not in any danger.
He confirmed that his grandson was found unhurt and is now back with his (the child) father in Las Lomas.
The businessman said he remains confused over the latest developments regarding his daughter but is leaving everything in the hands of the police.
