‘Cool It’, Dream Team in Fishing Pond opener today

The Fishing Pond Recreation Ground will be buzzing with activity from 1pm with the customary march past of teams.

And for the first time, there will be an Under-13 exhibition contest between North East Stars and Mayaro Youths at 2.30pm.

League organiser Prakash Ramkissoon has urged the public to come out and support the footballers as they battle for the first prize of $30,000. There will be cash prizes for the top three finishers with the runners-up receiving $7,000 and the thirdplaced team taking home $3,000.

Ramkissoon is expecting more excitement in this year’s competition with the paved roads anticipated to attract more teams and spectators to the games.

The league will be played in a round robin preliminary format with the team topping that stage getting $1,000.

The top eight teams will move on to the knockout stage known as the “Big 8”.

Registration is $2,500 per team which includes 14 players. Any additional player registered costs $300.

There will also be trophies for MVP, Golden Boot, First Hattrick, Most Disciplined Team, Best Defender, Best Goalkeeper etc. For more information call 3396778.
