Man in police shooting remains unidentified
Police said he was a street dweller and so far, no relative has come forward. In video footage which went viral on social media yesterday, the man is seen brandishing a cutlass as he hustled along the street.
He was later seen firing chops at one of two police vehicles which had arrived on the scene in response to a call from concerned citizens about an armed man threatening the lives of others.
He is said to have also been throwing missiles. A police report stated that about 10.15 am, officers were on mobile patrol when they were informed of a man armed with a cutlass near JTA Supermarket at Cross Crossing, San Fernando.
Upon arrival, the report further added, the police attempted to confront him but he ran off and headed a short distance away near the Cross Crossing bridge. He was pursued by police who confronted him again. He was ordered to drop the cutlass but refused and instead charged at the police firing chops at the vehicles. One of them fired several shots hitting him. The man collapsed to the ground and was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.
