Woman held with $2M bad cheque

According to reports, the 48-year-old woman went to the bank with the cheque and attempted to have it deposited.

However, one of the managers became suspicious and alerted other senior managers who quietly alerted the police.

While the woman waited at the bank, investigations revealed the cheque was examined and found to be fraudulent and Cpl Maraj of the Mayaro police station went to the bank and arrested the suspect. She was handed over to Fraud Squad officers.

A team of officers including Cpls Badree and Bachew coordinated by Snr Supt Totaram Dookhie and supervised by ASP Gishawan carried out extensive investigations and discovered the woman recently deposited a cheque in the sum of $90,000 at the Independence Square branch of Republic Bank.

Up until yesterday, she remained in custody and is expected to be charged with several offences and appear in court next week.
