San Fernando Rotary gets new President
“I believe in Rotary and I believe in you. Our club has always made a difference in our country, our communities and peoples’ lives. It is my pledge as President that we will continue to do so, to the best of our abilities,” Persad said in his acceptance speech.
Within the past year, the Club held several charity events to generate funding for its donations to the community.
Some of these include its annual BBQ fund-raiser and golf tournament. The club, in keeping with the 2016-2017 Rotary theme ‘Rotary Serving Humanity’, participated in various projects aimed at enriching the lives of the residents of San Fernando and environs.
These projects included a Mentorship and Empowerment Programme at Embacadere in San Fernando, a Water and Sanitation project in Barrackpore, and a free Medical and Legal Outreach in Piparo.
Additionally, members hosted a children’s Christmas treat for “deserving” primary schools in San Fernando and environs and provided school supplies for the less fortunate. The club was also responsible for chartering two interact clubs- one at ASJA Boys’ College and the other at Parvati Girls Hindu College.
