Sally was a true legend

In my humble view Sally was a legend and revolutionary in sports photography, ole talk on any subject, and shadow boxing.

He excelled in all three disciplines but in sports photography he made his name and his images on local and international cricket and football, as well as horse racing, were outstanding.

He won many awards and the respect of his peers and many of his colleagues in the media. Sally was well known by several leading sportsmen and sportswomen in many disciplines and he was also a true patriot for the red, white and black.

Among his favourite football teams were Malvern, Glory Guys of Dundonald Street, Port of Spain, the national team of 1972, and the Strike Squad led by coach Everard “Gally” Cummings.

His claim to fame as a footballer was that he played one match for Malvern, with the “greats.” One of the standing jokes about “Sally” in the football fraternity was that he was selected only because his club fees were paid up.

Among his favourite sportsmen were Cummings, Brian Lara, boxer Michael Paul and the great Muhammad Ali, from whom he learned shadow boxing.

Condolences to his family.
