Lash Out How to apply false lashes
In my opinion, eyelashes can really complete a makeup look. They can take you from simple to glamorous quickly and easily. Whether you opt for strip lashes, eyelash extensions or individual lashes, the fullness will create gorgeous definition and impact, particularly in photos.
Before we begin the tutorial, let’s discuss the different types of lashes. The most common type is human hair.
These are the most accessible and affordable. The hair is usually cut blunt rather than being tapered, so if you look closely, it will be evident that it isn’t natural.
Next there is synthetic or 3D Silk lashes, also known as faux mink. These are great because they’re more affordable than real mink, they’re tapered, fluffy-looking and they won’t lose their curl if you get them wet.
Of course, the last option is real mink. While it is commonly talked up among celebrities, touted for being beautifully glossy and natural-looking, they’re extremely expensive and high-maintenance. There is also the issue of animal cruelty in harvesting the fur from live minks.
Mink lashes won’t show up that well in photos because the hairs are very thin, and if you get them wet, they will fall flat. That being said, you can choose whichever suits your needs. There are lashes with clear bands and black bands. The clear bands will look more natural, while the black bands can mimic the appearance of eyeliner.
Today, we will be focusing on applying strip lashes.
While it is possible to apply individual lashes, it is time consuming and difficult to do on yourself. You will achieve a much more polished look with a strip lash. You will need tweezers or a lash applicator, eyelash adhesive, a mirror, scissors, eyeliner, mascara and of course, your lashes of choice.
Once you’ve completed your eyeshadow and you’ve chosen a lash, determine whether you need to apply eyeliner or not. If your eyelash has a clear or invisible band, you don’t have to apply eyeliner. However, if your lash has a solid or black band, you should apply your eyeliner first to prevent the gap of bare skin you’d see peeking through the lash.
Curl your natural lashes and apply mascara. This will create a shelf for the false lashes to sit on. Additionally, doing this first means that you won’t get mascara on your falsies, which can ruin them.
Next, you will want to measure the length of the false lash against your eye to determine whether you will need to trim it or not. If they’re too long, they will make your eyes appear droopy. Always cut from the outer corner of the lash rather than the inner corner, as this could ruin the style of your lash.
Apply a thin layer of glue to the band of the lash. Add an extra bead of glue to each end of the lash as these areas are prone to lifting. You don’t want to apply the glue too thick, because it will seep through your lashes and could stick your eyes together.
Wait about 30 seconds for the glue to partially dry and become tacky. This will ensure that your lash won’t slide straight off when you place it on your eye. While you wait, shape the band of the lash; Holding each end of the lash, bring them as close together as you can, without them touching. This will help the lash to keep its curved shape and sit more comfortably on your eye.
Once the glue is tacky, hold the lash in the centre using tweezers or a lash applicator. Look down into a mirror; If your mirror is fixed, simply tilt your head back so your eyes can remain open while applying the lash. You’ll be able to see what you’re doing and the glue will get to dry in a more relaxed shape, reducing tightness and discomfort. Place the lash on the skin just above your lash line, as close to your natural lashes as possible.
Without closing your eyes, tuck the outer and inner corner in, adjusting the lash if necessary.
Push the false lash upwards to ensure that it dries in an upright position. Pinch your lashes together to blend them seamlessly.
To remove strip lashes, soak a cotton bud in makeup remover or coconut oil. Rub this along your lashes to dissolve the glue. Hold the false lashes from the outer corner and gently pull them inwards. They should come off easily. When removing the rest of your makeup, ensure that all the glue comes off your eyes.
