Ex-journalist’s home raided

At about 4 pm, officers armed with a search warrant, went to the former journalist’s home telling her she was being investigated for allegedly perverting the course of justice.

Sources revealed that on January 5, when she met with police, the former journalist was asked to make available her cellphone and computer but the items were never handed over to police for reasons unknown. Contacted for comment, the ex-journalist said, “I have no comment.” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harold Phillip, asked to comment on the raid said, “I was at a meeting and need to confirm your information. Call me back in about 15 minutes.” All calls to his cellular phone after, went unanswered.

On January 5, the former investigative journalist was interviewed for more than four hours into allegations levelled against former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan, SC. DCP Phillip is probing an allegation that the former AG contacted Head of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) David West regarding a witness in a matter involving then Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley.

Ramlogan has strenuously denied all allegations. Newsday understands the probe is nearing completion. On January 5, the ex-journalist went to Police Administration Building in Port of Spain and was interviewed by DCP Philip and others. It was this former journalist who broke the story in another newspaper about Ramlogan’s alleged contact with PCA Director West.

Only last week, the same police who raided the ex-journalist’s house, went to the Office of the Attorney General and interviewed several people from that Ministry’s communications unit regarding press releases disseminated during Ramlogan’s tenure.

According to well placed sources, a file will be soon be submitted to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard, SC, for his consideration on how police should proceed in the matter.
