M for mature
The band’s launch is scheduled for September 2 at the National Academy for the performing Arts, Port of Spain. K2K achieved a hat-trick in the Medium Band of the Year category this year with its presentation titled In response to questions by Newsday about its 2018 theme, the Norman twins (Kathy and Karen) said the 2018 theme was initially their vision for 2020 but “given the state of the world, we decided to accelerate the theme as we thought it would be more poignant.” They added that the presentation speaks to, “the unification of the world and the elements that bring humanity together.
Although we are a people divided – separated by colour, race, and religion; we are a people united, bonded in culture and linked by tradition.
“Interestingly, if you were to remove our identifiers eg colour, race, religion and sex –you would soon realise that we are all nothing more than blood, muscle and skin. Inevitably, we are a people united, bonded together by a sense of family (extended and blood ties) and strengthened by common emotions (such as fear and hurt, with the most important being love). Although our differences define us, it should not blind us to what we all are: Human.” Although the presentation is rated as M for mature, don’t be misguided, don’t expect anything lewd. Instead its organisers intend to address “real issues and serious content” at the launch.
Patrons could look forward to an evening of cocktails followed by the 2018 collection.
The Normans said, “The presentation/ storyline is not what you are expecting. It talks to the interconnectedness of races, religion and people. We rated the show M for mature because we are dealing with real issues and serious content.” Ultimately, the twins hope to provide an inspirational message, create high quality garments and produce award-winning presentations that would pivot them toward earning the Band of the Year title.
