A press release from SporTT said, “The board of directors of the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited acting on the advice of the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs has undertaken a forensic investigation into the operations of the company. To facilitate this investigation, eight employees have been asked to proceed on administrative leave effective 19 July 2017.
The appointment of one member of the Board of Directors has also been revoked.” Stuart Young, Minister in The Office of The Prime Minister and Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs told the Newsday, “Certain information has come to light with respect to the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago. As a result the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs has launched forensic investigation into the company.
The board of directors has today sent on administrative leave eight employees and one director had his appointment revoked. Investigations are ongoing and as a result there can be no further comment at this time.” On a television report, it was said that items were seized by authorities yesterday at the SporTT office located at the National Cycling Velodrome in Couva. This incident is just the latest situation involving employees at SporTT . SporTT had seven CEO’s between 2004 and 2015. As a result in April, a recommendation was made by the Public Accounts Enterprises Committee (PAEC) of the Parliament to investigate the high turnover of CEOs.
In its submission to the PAEC, the Sport Company said the compensation package for the CEO post did not attract the quality of individuals to fill this position.
SporTT also said the high turnover of CEOs was compounded by the high turnover of its board, line minister and permanent secretaries since 2014.
