No bail for kidnap accused
Kwasi Bowen returned to court yesterday before Senior Magistrate Nanette Forde-John in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court, charged with six criminal offences, including kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of arms and ammunition. He first appeared before Forde-John on Wednesday where the charges that on July 8 in Woodbrook, Bowen being armed, kidnapped Yizhao Duo and robbed him of a vehicle valued $140,000. He is also accused of kidnapping Zhang Sijiu on July 13 in St James, taking him against his will for ransom, robbing him of $1,350 and an Apple iPhone. The 32-year-old pie vendor of Mustapha Lane, El Socorro was ordered to return to court yesterday as police prosecutors needed to verify his criminal record, which they informed Forde- John showed three convictions.
It was on this basis he was denied bail and advised of his right to apply a judge in Chambers.
Bowen will return to court on August 17 where he will appear before acting Chief Magistrate Maria Busby Earle-Caddle in the Eighth Court.
