Complaint to be filed in man’s death
Head of the Waajihatul Islaamiyyah Umar Abdullah yesterday said things are to be put in place before they file the complaint. He said the complaint would be filed sometime this week. Martins’ associates claim he was an “innocent man seeking to turn his life around.” In a media release, Abdullah stated one of the biggest mistakes people make is they allow first impressions to define how a person is viewed and treated. Shortly before 4 pm last Friday, Martins opened fire on officers at Caroni Savannah Road, Chaguanas near a car dealership, police said.
Martins of Enterprise, Chaguanas was wanted for a series of crimes including murder. Associates are claiming Martins was unarmed and went to the dealership to purchase a car when he was gunned down by police.
Martins, formerly of Diego Martin, was buried on Tuesday following a funeral service at the Munroe Road Masjid. “He leaves to mourn, a young wife and a five-monthsold baby. May the wrath of Allah descend on those responsible,” Abdullah said in the release.
