Former permanent secretary dies
Alcantara passed away at the Portof- Spain General Hospital on Sunday after a brief illness.
Her niece Alisha Corbin told Newsday her aunt, who last served in the Ministry of Finance and the Economy, was known for her dignified and professional manner.
She said Alcantara, who started her professional life as a teacher, later entered the public service, serving as permanent secretary in several ministries.
In 1996, she was awarded the Chaconia Media (Gold) for long and meritorious service in the field of public service.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 am, tomorrow, at the Mary Immaculate Queen of the Universe R.C. Church, Bourg Mulatresse, Lower Santa Cruz.
She will be laid to rest at the San Juan Public Cemetery.
