Narine guides Mystery XI to Powerade T20 crown
Narine, fresh off his 95-run innings in the semi-final round, blasted an entertaining 51 runs including three sixes and two fours and had bowling figures of one wicket for 28 runs in his four overs. The West Indies T20 representative swept the awards when he was adjudged best fielder, best batsman, best bowler and Man of the Match in the final.
Speaking after lifting the winners` trophy, Narine stated, “This was a very good tournament for my team and for cricket in TT and the community. For me, this was good preparation for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League.” Batting first, Mystery XI posted a huge total of 214 runs for nine wickets from their allotted 20 overs. Assisting Narine was ex-West Indies player Nicholas Pooran with 49 runs which contained five towering maximums, and former Trinidad and Tobago youth cricketer Vaaroon Samaroo who chipped in with 35 runs.
Dexter Sween was the best bowler for the All Stars with figures of 3/41.
In reply, Bamboo All Stars, playing without the tournament` s leading run scorer Darren Bravo, could have only managed 151/5 from their 20 overs.
Kieron Pollard topscored with a blistering 62 not out while former WI captain Denesh Ramdin made 47.
Narine and Nishal Gayadeen had identical figures of 1/28.
Teshawn Castro of World Premium Imports was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament by scoring 215 runs and capturing 13 wickets.
Bravo ended the campaign as the leading runscorer with 283 runs and most sixes with 18.
Underground Warriors won the most disciplined team award and the youngest player in the tournament was 14-year-old Amit Dass. Patricia Ali won the best supporter award as she was present for all the matches supporting her team EYM.
The month-long tournament had a committee comprising of players from the Comets Cricket Club who worked tirelessly to ensure that the tournament was a success. In true team spirit, they sacrificed a lot of time preparing the outfield due to many days of inclement weather.
Head of the Committee, Rayad Emrit, congratulated the participating teams and their main sponsor Powerade as well as the other sponsors who contributed.
He vowed that next year will be even better.
