New amusement park opens

Speaking on Sunday, Richard Smith one of the owners of the theme park said their vision was to provide a family entertainment centre that was first class. “We wanted something that citizens would be proud of and this is the first phase in what we are doing,” he said. The second phase will be the water park which is under construction and is expected to be completed in 2018. Since opening on Saturday, Smith said the feedback has already been extremely positive and what he was most proud of was the feedback given about the staff.

“The feedback that we have received about the staff is their professionalism, their fun attitude and how they treat with customers.

That is an important part in the experience and for me getting that feedback is very heart-warming,” he said. There are currently 85 permanent workers at the theme park, most of whom live close to the Chaguaramas area.

During the construction of the park, many expressed concern that it would block access to the beach however, Smith said they have not taken away beach access and they have even enhanced the area by building a board walk.

Louanna Borde, Director Marketing and Sales said the other attractions include a rope course, a surf rider and a Dragon Fly Air Racer. There is also a toddler zone, birthday party rooms and a bar which is expected to be open in a week or two. The park also has a cashless system as a band is used to pay for games and food.

“Everything is on a band, so when you pay at the cashier you load everything on your band. It’s safe and convenient,” she said. The admission fee which includes unlimited access to the rides is $200 for guests 48 inches tall and over. Guests between 42 and 47 inches pay $120 and guests under 36 inches are free When Newsday visited the park there were several families enjoying the different attractions including Sport Minister Darryl Smith.

“It’s a wonderful experience, you don’t have to travel anywhere, you can get everything that you need here. I encourage everybody to come down to the west and enjoy it,” he said.
