Cabaret in the city

A production of John Thomas, conductor and musical director of the Eastern Musical Chorale (EYC), The Cabaret provided the small audience with just over 20 songs.

Though fighting off a cold, parang queen Alicia Jaggesar opened the show with Welcome to the Cabaret and she was followed by Nikita Gadsby with This is My Life.

John Thomas was joined on stage by Aaron Mark Alleyne, Varla Ross and Maxine Greaves and the EYC quartet performed Let’s Fall In Love. While Noel Espinoza then thrilled the audience with his version of The Way You Look Tonight.

Jeanine Clarke-Jackson provided the setting for the Cabaret both in dress and performance when she did When You are Good to Mama and the audience showed its appreciation.

Dressed in bright red LA Rose set the stage on fire with her voice as she worked the lyrics of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and she too had the audience blowing whistles and clapping very loudly.

Just when you felt the show was at its peak, up came Aaron Mark Alleyne with the Paul Anka lyrics made popular by Frank Sinatra in the song My Way. He literally blew the song out of the building and left the audience speechless.

Anything after Mark Alleyne’s performance was a bonus and the audience truly collected with Nikita Gadsby doing At Last and Summertime and Maxine Greaves Witch’s Rap.

John Thomas gave his best when he performed I’ll Be Seeing You, Be My Love and Isn’t It Romantic.

He was joined on stage by LA Rose and they performed the Nat King Cole’s 1951 hit Unforgettable.

Thomas finished off his performance with the ever popular Ain’t Misbehaving.

Kyle Richardson performed I am Who I am and Send In the Clowns, after which all the female singers made their way on stage to perform All about the Bass. They were then joined by their male counterparts for the grand finale It Don’t Mean a Thing.

The Cabaret was a very good show put on by some very talented singers and if you missed it, there is a repeat performance at the same venue on Thursday.
