Diego man found dead, West Mall worker stabbed

A 32-year-old Diego Martin man was found dead yesterday, moments after residents of Four Roads, Diego Martin heard a volley of shots in the Cuthbert Circular area, police sources said.

The dead man was yesterday identified as Fidel Charles, of Covigne Road. It was around 3.30 pm when residents heard the shots. Shortly after, they said they observed Charles running down Cuthbert Circular. He was found dead a short distance away. Senior police officers told Newsday they believe Charles’ death is linked to a shooting incident which occurred in the same area over the weekend. The man, who was clad in three-quarter denim pants, a white shirt and khaki boots, was unfamiliar to residents of the area. The body bore gunshot wounds to the back and chest. When questioned by members of the media and police officers as to what the man’s business might have been in that area,  residents seemed uncertain.

A party of officers headed by Western Division head Sr Supt Stephen Quashie and including acting Insp Anthony Lezama and others from the Four Roads CID visited the scene and conducted investigations. And at West Mall, Westmoorings, a 19-year-old employee of Johnny’s fast food at the mall’s food court was stabbed by another man following an altercation. According to sources at the food court, the victim, Ricardo Thompson, and his attacker had an ongoing rift which got out of hand yesterday. His attacker, a 20-year-old man, is also employed at the food court, at Manchu Wok chinese food. The altercation, sources said, took place just at the back of the food court, which is situated just outside the mall. Thompson, who received stab wounds to his back and right arm, was rushed to hospital. Officers from the Four Roads Police Station have since detained the 20-year-old man for questioning. Investigations are continuing.
