German med student beaten and robbed

BELMONT police were up to late yesterday searching for four young men who on Sunday evening beat and robbed German medical student Markus Weiss.

Police said around 6.25 pm, Weiss was at Frederick Street in the vicinity of Memorial Park, where there was a Carnival launch in progress. Four young men reportedly approached the 27-year-old German who was then beaten and robbed of an Olympus camera valued $US100.  They then fled the scene. Weiss was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he was warded for observation. Cpl Learie Barrington of the Belmont Criminal Investiga-tions Department is investigating the incident.
