Four Trinis charged with murder of Tobago couple
Richard “Rastaman” London, 34, of St Joseph, and Jason Sandy, of Pinto Road, Arima, are each charged with two separate counts of murdering Bevan Toby and Judith Toby at Moriah on September 20.
Also charged with the Tobys’ murder are Sheldon Keel, 34, of Mafeking, Mayaro, and Ainsworth “Juice” Williams, 41, of College Trace, St Augustine, who previously appeared in court earlier this week charged with the murder of German engineer Peter Taut at Bacolet last November 1.
However, Keel and Williams were not present in court yesterday when their names were called along with London and Sandy in the matter of the couple’s murder. Prosecutor Sgt Willie Davis informed the court that Keel and Williams were in prison on remand in connection with the German’s murder charge, and a habeas corpus warrant has to be served on the prison authorities to facilitate their appearance in court.
Keel and Williams are listed to reappear in court on November 19 in connection with the charge of murdering Taut, at which time they would be arraigned on the charge of murdering Bevan and Judith Toby.
Charges in the matter were laid by Detective Sgt Winston Adams, of the Scarborough CID.
The victims’ remains were found by police amidst the smouldering ruins of their home located in a deserted forested area at Cuffie River, some six miles off the Northside Main Road at Runnemede, which was completely destroyed by fire at about 11am on September 20. London was represented by attorney Vashist Maharaj, while Sandy told the court he was being represented by Samantha Lawson who was not present in court.
Both accused were were subsequently remanded in custody, and will reappear in court on November 19.
