Ramasra ousted from Rhode Island Open

Ramasra who is ranked 162 in the Professional Squash Association World Rankings was defeated by Egyptian Mohammed Abbas ranked at 65. The speedy Egyptian make a solid start in the opening game winning 11-6. He was able to press his advantage with several accurately placed shots. The third seed increased his advantage in the second game with a commanding performance to win 11-5. Abbas sealed the victory by keeping the pressure on Ramasra winning the final game 11-3 to end the contest in 30 minutes.

Ramasra expressed his disappointment in exiting the tournament in the opening round at the start of the squash season. Trinidad and Tobago’s first professional squash player recently recovered from a Planta Facia injury to his left foot which has resulted in him being short of practice for the start of the Pro season.

Ramasra said he was delighted to be playing competitive squash again and felt his performances would improve as he returns to full fitness. The Petrotrin squash player is scheduled to play in the Turin Open in Italy starting on December 7 before returning home on December 15. Ramasra is seeded seventh at the Turin Open and said that he hopes for an improved performance.

Meanwhile Queen’s Park’s, Ryan Abraham became Trinidad and Tobago’s second squash player to join the professional circuit. Abraham, 28, has not competed in any tournaments thus far and is currently ranked 321. The Queen’s Park player will have to play in qualifying tournaments to secure a position in the main draw until his rank improves.
