Armed bandits stage daring robbery at Cascadia
Officers of the Belmont Police Station are investigating a daring early morning robbery at Cascadia Hotel, St Ann’s.
Reports revealed that around 4.15 am, two men armed with guns entered the Cascadia Hotel and held up the security guard. They robbed him of his walkie talkie, then tied him up. The bandits ordered the night auditor to open a hotel vault from which they took $5,000 in cash and a quantity of valuables belonging to guests at the hotel. The bandits escaped by running away. Officers of the Belmont CID visited the scene and a search for the suspects proved fruitless. Fingerprint experts were called in and checks were carried out for prints.
Yesterday, the affected guests were called to a meeting at the hotel and told of the robbery. They were asked by management to submit a list of the items which they had placed in the vault for safe keeping. Their lists were matched against those in possession of the night auditor, and arrangements made to have the guests compensated for their losses. A senior official of the hotel told Newsday that security will now be beefed up as a result of the robbery.Investigators told Newsday that they are working on several leads and arrests were imminent.
