Aranjuez gets Bailey

BY next Wednesday, a temporary Bailey bridge is to be placed at the Aranjuez river. The bridge collapsed on November 21, and has created severe hardships for residents in the area, who use it as a quicker access route to the highway and into Aranjuez. This was stated by Works and Transport Minister Franklyn Khan yesterday when asked about the matter following the PNM’s General Council meeting. Khan said he had taken personal responsibility for the project. He assured that the Bailey bridge was temporary until funds can be sourced to construct a permanent structure.

The Minister estimated that it would cost close to one and a quarter million for a permanent bridge. The San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation had denied having responsibility for the bridge saying they were responsible for secondary roads and traces. Minister Khan took on the project and said yesterday it made no sense arguing over whose responsibility it was, because at the end of the day, it was all Government’s responsibility.
