Nine homeless after fire destroys rented house

Nine persons were rendered homeless on Friday night when fire destroyed a two-storey house at Boodram Street Enterprise. The occupants of the house lost everything and fire officers on the scene said that the blaze may have been caused by faulty electrical wiring. The house was occupied by three families who were renting from the owner of the building, Roopnarine Harry. The fire is believed to have started around 10 pm.

Keith Law, one of the victims told Newsday that his wife and two children were in the house when he left for work. Law said that he lost everything in the fire. He estimated his losses at over $50,000. Law said that he is not pleased at the way the officers handled the situation. Fire Prevention Officers returned to the scene of the fire yesterday and carried out checks to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
