Retired teacher murder trial - Accused: Dayah owned a car in 2002

However, the State produced evidence yesterday in the San Fernando High Court that Ramsook only purchased the Nissan Almera in 2003. Lewis also testified that Ramsook was his “girfriend” for 12 months. But when asked by State attorney Joy Balkaran the date of her birthday, the accused could not say. Though he testified to Justice Mark Mohammed and a 12-member jury that he had a relationship with Ramsook, Lewis said that he was unaware whether or not Ramsook had deformed toes.

Ramsook, 63, was strangled at her Alta Garcia home in Siparia on November 6, 2003. Police found the woman’s body hog-tied, gagged and wrapped in a piece of cloth inside her house. During cross-examination yesterday, Lewis testifed that Ramsook owned a white Nissan Almera when they became involved in October 2002. Balkaran asked the accused if Ramsook bought a new car to which he replied, “We never spoke about those things.” Balkaran told him a certified copy that had been tendered into evidence at the start of the trial stated that Ramsook had only purchased that car on January 30, 2003. She asked Lewis whether he would accept that Ramsook became the registered owner of the car on January 30, 2003 and his response was: “It is possible, maam.”

When asked about the date of Ramsook’s birthday and whether she went on vacation during their relationship, he said he did not know her birthday because Ramsook was a Jehovah witness and they did not celebrate birthdays. The trial continues today.
