Bullet riddled body of Tunapuna man found in dirt track

The bullet riddled body of a Tunapuna man was discovered in a dirt track close to his home around midday yesterday. The victim, Edward Stoby, alias “Guyanese” left his Upper Fairley Trace, Tunapuna home around 7 pm on Saturday telling his mother Jenieva Augustine that he was going to a nearby pub to play pool. Augustine told Newsday that she was awakened around 10 pm by the sound of gunshots but thought that it was fire crackers. When her son failed to return home on Saturday, she was not worried because she thought that he was in company of friends. Around midday yesterday, a neighbour stumbled upon the body and contacted the Tunapuna Police. The 23-year-old man appeared to have been shot about seven times about the body.

Officers of the Homicide Bureau led by Sgt Johnny Abraham and including Supt Anthony, ASP Moore and others went to the scene, along with Crime Scene Officers. The grieving mother of the dead man expressed shock over the killing. She said that her son was born in Guyana but started living at her home seven years ago. He is the father of a three-week old baby. The grieving woman said she would like to know why her son was killed and she is calling on the police to find the killer or killers. Residents of the area described the killing as a mystery since they claimed that he kept to himself and worked hard as a labourer. Sgt Samai of the Tunapuna Police Station is investigating.
