Trini wanted in NY held in Central

A 46-year-old Trinidadian, who is wanted by Manhattan police in the United States, was among 25 persons arrested in an early morning exercise carried out by officers of Central Division. Reports revealed that the man has a matter pending in the Manhattan Drug Court and reportedly fled to Trinidad three years ago. He was reportedly hiding out at a Chaguanas house. Yesterday, officers led by Inspector Raphael, Sgts Sylvester, Lumy, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and others executed a search warrant at the home of the man and arrested him. He later confessed to being on the run. US Court Marshalls are expected in the country shortly to have the man returned to Manhattan to face the drug charge.

Officers then went to a Freeport house where they seized one kilogramme of marijuana and arrested a 43-year-old man. The same officers also went to Perseverance Village, Chaguanas, where they arrested a 26-year-old woman and seized a quantity of compressed marijuana from her home. One man was arrested and charged with driving without a driver’s permit and insurance. A quantity of marijuana was also allegdly seized from his vehicle. Officers later recovered three stolen cars which were stolen at gunpoint from the owners between December 31 and Tuesday night. Several homes were also raided for stolen electrical items and drug dens were also searched. The exercise started at 3 am and ended at noon yesterday. It was coordinated by Snr Supt Farrel. Other officers taking part in the exercise included Cpl Aguilerra, and PCS Alexander, Pierre and Guelmo. The exercise formed part of the anti-crime initiative and more raids and exercises are planned. Those arrested will appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today.
