US deportee shot dead in Laventille

A 32-year-old man who was deported from the United States was shot dead while walking along a dirt track at Trou Macaque Road, Laventille, early yesterday. His death is the tenth murder for the year. Anthony Ricky Abraham was reportedly involved in a dispute with a man  over land at Spring Vale, Laventille. The dispute started after he was deported from Brooklyn on a drug charge. Reports revealed that Abraham had complained to friends about the dispute, saying he felt his life was in danger. He reportedly moved out from the house where he was staying and began living at the home of another relative. Early yesterday, Abraham left his home at Spring Vale and was walking along a dirt track close to the Trou Macaque Community Centre when several loud explosions were heard.

A man armed with a gun was seen running away. Residents of the area discovered  Abraham’s body in a pool of blood. He appeared to have been shot at least six times. Officers of the Besson Street Police Station were contacted and a party of officers led by Supt Errol Denoon and including Ag Inspectors John Martinez, Sahadeo Singh, Cpl Collins and others went to the scene along with a District Medical Officer. The body was viewed and ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre. Police investigators recovered six spent shells from the scene and they believe that a 9mm was used in Abraham’s killing. Investigators are certain that Abraham’s death is linked to a land dispute and told Newsday that an arrest is imminent. Ag Inspector Martinez is investigating.
