Boogsie, Terror in serious condition at hospital

ACE pannist Len “Boogsie” Sharpe reportedly remains in a serious condition at the St Clair Medical Centre. Sharpe was warded at the institution on Monday suffering from a stomach infection, diarrhoea and high blood pressure. He had complained of feeling unwell at his home over the weekend. His doctor, it was reported, said his sugar level was “extremely high.” Efforts to confirm Sharpe’s condition with the medical institution were unsuccessful. A query from Newsday was met with a promise by an official to “call back soon” that never materialised.

Meanwhile, the condition of veteran calypsonian the Mighty Terror (Fitzgerald Henry), who has been warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital since last week Wednesday, has not improved. It has been widely rumoured that Terror, 84, lost his voice and damaged his internal organs after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance. According to a well-placed source, Terror had sunk into deep depression following rapid failure of his eyesight, despite having undergone operations to remove cataracts. “His having to depend on someone to assist him in moving about and seeing to his personal needs apparently triggered a bout of depression,” the source said. In addition, the source added, Terror had become extremely despondent over the actions of a high-profiled cultural organisation that owed him a substantial amount of money. “Despite numerous requests and exhortations for what was owed to him, he has not received one penny of the money,” the source said. “Terror is a very proud man, so having to resort to literally begging for what is rightfully his, coupled with his rapidly failing eyesight seemed too much for him to bear at this stage of his life and career.”
