Julien smashes CCCAN backstroke record

Julien, who has already captured the 13-14 50m freestyle gold, continued her hot streak with a 30.96 clocking in the backstroke to erase the previous CCCAN mark of 31.11 set in 2005.

Also bringing home gold for TT was Dylan Carter who set a new personal best (PB) in the 13-14 100m freestyle. Carter stopped the clock at 52.80 seconds while compatriot Jabari Baptiste placed fifth in a personal best time of 55.51 seconds.

Carter was pipped for the 50m backstroke gold by Jamaican Timothy Wynter. Carter and Wynter were joint 50m backstroke gold medallist at CARIFTA earlier this year but this time there was no stopping the Jamaican who touched the wall in a new CCCAN record of 26.96. Carter followed in a national record time of 27.41.

Carter has now amassed an impressive haul of three gold, two silver as well as two CCCAN and three national records.

Adding to the gold rush for TT was Joshua Romany who won the 15-17 100m freestyle in 52.20 seconds.

Jonathan Cabral was sixth in 54.05 which was a PB. Romany has already won gold in the 50m and 200m freestyle events.

Also, Napoleon Howell took the silver in the 18 and over 100m breaststroke in a PB time of 1:05.92.

Abraham Mc Leod came in fourth in a PB as well, finishing in 1:06.71. Anthony Edwards earned silver in the 18 and over 200m backstroke in a time of 2:17.45.

TT had success in the relay events as well with the 18 and over male 800m freestyle team of Edwards, Mc Leod, Caryle Blondell, Abraham Mc Leod and Joshua Mc Leod coming in second in 8:19.44. The 15-17 800m freestyle quartet of Stefan Sharpe, Joshua Romany, Sean Roget and Blaine Sobrian were also second in 8:06.71.

The 800m 15-17 female team finished fourth in the 800m freestyle in 9:20.81.
