Woman found in sea was murdered
DHANRAJI RAMSARAN was murdered at King’s Wharf, San Fernando, police said yesterday, after an autopsy showed there were signs of strangulation. Ramsaran, 49, a janitor, was found floating in the sea a short distance from where she lived at Squatter’s Settlement, King’s Wharf. Her body was discovered at about 7 am on Sunday by a passerby. San Fernando and Marabella CID officers were quickly on the scene. Police said she was HIV-positive.
The eldest son of the deceased, Winston Richards, said he last saw Ramsaran around 3 am on Sunday at their home. An autopsy performed by Dr Hughvon des Vignes at the Forensic Science Centre revealed death was due to asphyxia consistent with drowning, but the pathologist noted that there marks of violence on her head and neck. Police suspect that her killer may have held her under the water until she drowned.
