Guard beaten at South school
AN MTS security guard was knocked unconscious with a pig-foot by a gang of men who broke into two Princes Town schools early Wednesday morning.
Another security guard is assisting police with their investigations into the break-in at the second school, St Stephens College, which has been burglarised six times in the past few months.
In the first incident, at around 12.55 am, Estate Constable Nizam Ali, 40, of Petit Cafe, Indian Walk, was on duty at the Princes Town Presbyterian School No 2, at Taska Road, when three men approached him. The men ordered Ali to hand over his money. When Ali refused, he was struck on his head with a pig foot. The guard collapsed and was robbed of $105. The bandits then broke into the school’s office and main building, stealing stationary and office equipment.
When Ali regained consciousness, he alerted the police and was taken to the Princes Town Hospital where he was treated and transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital. He is reported to be in satisfactory condition. Shortly afterward, the same three men broke into the college and escaped with a cellular phone and snacks from the cafeteria. The break-in was discovered sometime later. ASP Joseph Nathaniel is spearheading investigations into both incidents.
