Driver in hit and run held
A Manzanilla driver who knocked down two people on the Manzanilla Road and then reported that he was the victim of a robbery was arrested and is assisting the police in their investigations. Police reported that around 7.50 pm on Ash Wednesday, a green Lancer car travelling west along the Manzanilla Road came in contact with two pedestrians walking along the Manzanilla Road. The victims Erica Williams, 36, and Gumatee Udit, 26, of Morrison Trace, Manzanilla, fell to the ground and people journeying to the “Cool Down” at Manzanilla who saw what happened went to their assistance.
The vehicle which was alleged to have knocked down Williams and Udit, failed to stop and reportedly ran off the Manzanilla Road in the vicinity of the Manzanilla Community Centre where it caught fire and was burnt The occupants fled the vehicle. Cpl Monesh Barran, Ag Cpl Curtis Skeete and PCs Rampersad and Khan of CID continued investigations which led them to a 22-year-old man of Camparo, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man of Sangre Chiquito and a 17-year-old woman of Guaico. They have all been arrested by the Sangre Grande Police and Cpl Baran of Traffic Branch is continuing inquiries.
